It is going to be interesting to see how Air France can upset passengers that are over weight now, in the past they measured a passenger’s waist to assess if they need to pay for two seats- the passenger who was 27 stone received £5,000 damages for the humiliation they suffered.
There policy is strange, what I am yet to work out is Air France are commented on saying the for "Safety reasons" passengers need to sit in a standard seat or can not board, but they are also saying that the same passenger can pay up to 75% of the cost of the second seat, however if the aircraft is not full they may be able to get there money back.

Sounds more like a case of making money were you can rather then Health and Safety.

United Airlines are charging for two seats for large customers as well. Which Carrier will follow next?

It is so frustrating when customer book in America and then something goes wrong and they expect www.cruise.co.uk or the cruise liner to be able to assist them.

In the UK reputable Travel agents have ABTA and ATOL cover, now this is important for many reasons but with the current financial climate, and companies going in to administration such as XL Leisure, Globespan, Allbury Travel Group among others. It is more important to make sure that companies you use have this.

So what do they mean?

ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents)

 www.cruise.co.uk pay a large bond to be a member of ABTA.

 ABTA checks that www.cruise.co.uk are financially sound

 Any descriptions are as accurate as possible

 www.cruise.co.uk will handle your booking with the highest standards of service and quality

 Your money is safe

 You will never be stranded abroad ABTA takes great care in checking www.cruise.co.uk finances to reduce the risk of anything going wrong.

 In the unlikely event that it does, ABTA's discretionary scheme of financial protection will be in place so that:

• If you are already on a trip, you will be able to continue as originally planned. ABTA will make sure you are never stranded abroad.

• If you've not yet started your trip, you'll get your money back or where possible ABTA will make arrangements for you to continue with the planned trip.

ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s License)

 www.Cruise.co.uk act as agents for licensed tour operators; the relevant ATOL number is displayed with each holiday shown.

 Firms selling air travel in the UK are required by law to hold ATOL's.

 ATOL's protect you from losing money, or being stranded abroad, when travel firms go bust.

 Before any firm gets an ATOL, it has to lodge guarantees with the CAA. (Civil Aviation Authority)

 If it goes out of business, the CAA gives refunds to people who can't travel and pays for people abroad to finish their holidays and fly home.

 This protection is included in the price of a trip booked with an ATOL-holder.

Beware....

 If you build your own holiday and book direct with an airline or hotel you won't be protected

 If you book your flights and hotel separately online, it may be cheaper, but your holiday and money will be at risk if one of the companies providing the components collapses. You could be left with holiday accommodation and no flight to get there, or be stranded abroad.

To further secure your holiday make sure you have travel insurance, you can get it from your travel provider, who has to be trained to sell insurance to you, this insure you are fully protected or you can use your bank or other providers of travel insurance. This is a different protection from ABTA and ATOL, so do not think if you have travel insurance you will be covered.

Globespan Collapse- where has all the money gone?

Back on the 16th December the collapse of Globespan caused mayhem within the cruising industry and also today the effect continues with the Scottish customer missing the regional flight connections.

Having read various articles on Globespan collapse it is causing me to think there was others at work that caused the company to cease. As they say money makes the world go around, or cease in this case.

From what I can work out a credit clearing company called E -Clear have involvement in this, the was CEO Elias Elia, they held the payments for up to six months after the customer had there flights. Causing them to have cash flow issues, then Globespan disputed the amount of money E-Clear owed them in October 2009 to the sum of £35M. E-clear refused an independent audit that Globespan requested- Now if that does not sound like they have something to hide I do not know what does.

What now is interesting and no accusations here but a company called Halcyon Investments offered to make an investment in the company at this time, who do you think one of the investor was, who was the CEO of E-Clear again?? One in the same, Mr Elias Elia
Maybe he was just trying to help!!!! Express an opinion if you want.

I want to know who has the money???

As a travel agent ATOL and ABTA seem to be more so beneficial in today’s market with such conspiracies taking place.

It makes cruise lines make announcements like the one below from Royal Caribbean:

"With the news this morning that Globespan have gone into administration we would like to reassure all of our trade partners that we will be re-protecting any customers who were due to travel with the Airline onto alternative flight services".

Major Refurbishment for Black Watch

I have sailed on a couple of the Fred Olsen ships and they have always exceeded my expectations, I have not yet been on the Black Watch but I think that after her latest refurbishment work I must join a sailing. Carry on reading for the work completed and pictures.

The Black Watch has completed her recent dry dock in December 2009. She returns to service following some major refurbishment work.
The work included a major refurbishment of the ship’s public areas, including a new casual dining area, which has been created in the space where the Braemar Lounge and Garden Café were situated.

The transformed area is now the Braemar Garden, a casual dining area with seating for 120 persons, and replaces the Garden Café which seated 80 persons. One section of this newly created dining area is screened off, creating a 40 seat room that can be used for private dining. This new area has been completely refitted with new soft furnishings, a new bar, and buffet.

Other areas of the ship have also received new soft furnishings, including the Neptune Lounge, Pipers Bar, Glentanar Restaurant and the Observatory Lounge. In addition, many cabin bathrooms have been refitted

On the technical side, Black Watch has also had her last three open lifeboats replaced by two covered boats. This means that some previously restricted views from cabins will now be unobstructed views.

I do not know about you, but when I take photos I really take photos, Over kill Queen, three shots of the same thing just encase my figure appears or a head disappears.

The most frustrating thing for me is when I go on a cruise come back and a year later re look at the photographs I struggle to remember where this beautiful place is, I have to ask the one that knows it all, (otherwise known as the Husband).

I have now started to take pictures of the port sign now as a matter of priority so I do not get frustrated with my self and my Husband does not feel like he has to remember everything about everything, is this just me or do other couples have this problem? Please let me know other wise I will think I have an early case of Alzheimer’s.

Other than taking pictures of the port I have started to use labels in the albums and the electronic photos I have started to name the place than call it dsc001. Ect.

I also have started to put them in files day 1 at sea, day 2 Madeira.

All I need now is to get the head shot right and all my problems will be solved, otherwise I will be forever giving the camera to my son to get the shot I want.

Women Drivers!!

Earlier last week our Manager got stuck in the snow on the way to work, Now it's been over a week of snow I thought that it was clearing up and as the temperature seemed to be rising, I have been a little over confidence on the roads. I am now sick of snow.

I was a little late on my way to a course I was to do on behalf of Special Olympics where I am a volunteer and ended up lost down a hill my car slid down and could not get up.
It was when my car started to wheel spin to much, and a strange smell that was not me entered my nostrils I decided to park and get assistance. I ended up being rescued and dug out.

I felt like I was not helping what they say about women drivers.

After all of this I may put off going to North Cape for a bit and look for a cruise with a bit of sun instead. I feel the Mediterranean is coming or maybe Istanbul, decisions decisions

New Itineraries

I am asked most of the time when is the best time to book a cruise?

Generally it is when the new itineraries are launched and for most cruise lines it is around March and April time.

This insures you get what you want when you want.

Last minute offers do become available later but not on all the cruises and it is normally not the best cabins remaining.

Most people that have cruised for years express an interest in the cruise or the liners they want to us before the new itineraries are announced, that way we can provide details before hand and then Pre register there details to book the cruise when it goes on sail.

This is done to maximise the chances of getting the best price and cabins. It is also not worth missing the cruise you want especially if it is for a Honeymoon, Birthday or anniversary, can you imagine the ear ache you would get!!!

I was shopping with the In-laws at B & Q over Christmas and my father-in-law made me laugh by saying I should go with them on Tuesday as B & Q have special discount for OAP's. He goes himself and sees young couples dragging there elders around the store.

I could not imagine doing this at B & Q but I can really imagine doing for sailing on Royal Caribbean after seeing this cruise:

Vomiting Victoria

The newspapers have done it again, scare mongering the world cruise section passengers, they are calling to find out if they will be able to join the ship in New York.
299 passengers need to be ill for the ship not to dock, which is 15% of passengers presently there is only 30 confined to there cabin.

Monotaurs and Palaces

Heraklion this is the port of call Used for embarking for Ocean Villiage, which was only a 15 minutes from the airport.

It was very easy access and the port was quick and easy to get to. Ocean village coach transfers were quick and efficient and also managed to sort out about six people that left there luggage in the airport, they arranged for them to go back through, very helpful and good to watch.

I really want to go back as I wasted my time at this port I should have ventured of to Knossos Palace to see the ruins and mosaics as well as the labyrinth where the Mythical Minotaur roamed. I spent the time unpacking resting. I must go back.

Family fun on the Norwegian Jade

All those years ago when I first had training on NCL I was under the impression that they were more like Ocean village. How wrong was I?

I visited the ship and realized that what they referred to as Freestyle cruising, which I took as Buffett dining, it was in fact not, there concept on the dinning was unique. I can see why the CCS group are following suit with personal choice dinning.

With NCl you choose which restaurant you wish to dine in, the restaurant is waiter as in First or second dinning, you are free to dine when and where you want. There are a few specialized restaurants you need to pay a small Sur-charge for, nothing to expensive.
I would however recommend opting to prepay for your service charge as subject to the exchange rate it could go up and at least you know it is all paid for.

Taking my little one on board as his first cruising experience was the best; he really enjoyed the Swimming pool and the slide, the food he loved and the Clubs. The clubs were set into different age bands so he was with kids his own age doing activities to suit his age, the staff were great.

He dressed up in his little suit, put on his Spy ware Glasses, listening Devices and watch. He escorted us to the restaurant of his choice where he enjoyed Lobster,(there was options for children but he wanted to try it and why not).

I liked that you could get a hot chocolate in the buffet restaurant for him, it felt as if they were cantering for the kids as well as the adults; I have been on RCI and Have to say I missed the hot chocolate in the buffet restaurant

All round great family ship, for both adults and Children.

Teide's Tenerife

Tenerife is a lovely Island we berthed at Santa Cruz-this is a small port (was a fishing village) 10 min walk from ship.

We took an excursion to Mount Teide it was excellent I recommended it - as its about 30 Miles through the Esperanza Forest, the clouds are low and the journey will take you through the mount Teide National park, very scenic. It will make the Island for you.
Mount Teide is also the highest peak in Spain.

Once you are near the top there are open plains it was were Planet of the Apes was set and is most beaufitul.

The excursion That I took did not involve going to the top via a cable car, if you want to get to the top make sure you have the excursion that includes the cable car trip, what can I say Heights are not my strong point.

The Nearest beach is Playa de las Teresitas which is about 5.5 miles from berth.

Is Lanzarote really Lanzagrotty

I have had a couple of customers referred to me that Lanzarote is not that nice to visit and the tours were not good. I had to say this feedback from customers on this Canary Island almost put me off getting of the ship. but with it being the Closest Island to African Mainland and the weather being Excellent I thought what the Hell and took and excursions.

I took the excursion, as it was a Sunday and we had been warned that a lot of the shops would be closed in port, we Berth in Affecife which is about 2 miles from the town centre.

The Excursion I done was the Fire Mountain it is in the Timanfays National Park where if Lava flow is of interest you can see it solidified all around. Once you are at the top of Fire Mountain there are places where they put on small shows to show you that parts of it are still active.

There were lots of Grapes grown and a Vineyard tour was included in the Fire Mountain tour which is worth a visit.

I have to say it surprised me the journey was interesting and informative; the sites were excellent with lots of extinct volcano’s in site.

I also understand why some may feel i is not to great to visit, I went to a beech there it had black sand and was uncomfortable to say the least, I glad I do not a sun worshipper.
Next time I go I want to visit the rare white craps that reside at Janeos Del Aqua in a sea cavern

Mykonos-Greece

Gorgeous little Island, I have to say it almost rivals that of Santorini for its beauty.

Cobbled streets, ruins, windmills and beeches, who could want more.

I have also been told that its night life is the best in the Aegean.
I wondered around the streets and explored the shops as it was so close to town.

There are not many Taxis here so a tour is recommended if you wish to venture away form the town.
If I went again I would go to Delo as I am like the myths of the Greeks, Delos was meant to be the birth place of Apollo and Artemis, and the ruins of the three temples of Apollo are there along with the Naxis Lions.

In Brugge

One of my favourite Places.

I have been here a number of times and rumour has it our Christmas party 2010 is here again!!

I have been here three times but twice on cruise ships once on NCL Jade and the other time on P & O Aurora I found the best route to get into Brugge is to take the free transfer bus to Blackenberge then take a train from Blackenberge to Brugge 3.20 Euros per adult kids are free.
Brugg is a great place for family’s and for couples.

Families:

Visit the beach in Blackenburge

River boat tour of the canals

Shop

Hunt down as many chocolate shops as possible (streets of them)

Drink there excellent hot chocolate

Eat lots of Waffles UMMM

Couples

All of the above

Visit pubs as the local beer is excellent

Visit local historic places of interest.(Chapel of the Holy Blood, Cathedra of St. Salvator)
Climb the Belfry for Panoramic Views
The fish Market is Interesting to see as well/
If you go at Xmas there is an ice skating rink in one of the main squares

Lots of stall shopping

A walk by the lakes is romantic.

This is a place that’s a short distance away and you can not get board no matter how may times you see it.

Dependent on the time you have here you can visit Brussels, I was lucky enough to go to the NATO building when I was younger.

Sunny Santorini

You dock in a crater- Although you are right in the town I advise an excursion to see this fantastic port.

It does not matter where in Greece you go you will always find a post card with the beautiful blue rooftops of Santorini.

Great for its sites, food and above, all shopping.

The tour I took was the best of Santorini, good shoes are a must the first stop was Oia Village which gives you the most amazing photos that even they can not justify the beauty of this place, the shopping for garments is a must with the silks and bright colours you would be at a loss otherwise.

I have to say the cliff edge houses are incredible. They allow you some time here and then it is off to the Santos Winery, this one is a lot bigger than that in Limassol, however I preferred the Winery in Lanzarote, but it is good for picking up a present or two.

The coach will take you around the Island and its sites then will drop you of in Fira with a Cable car ticket down the hill. Fira is great for looking around with the Cobbled streets unique houses and excellent food, as Claire could speak Greek from her rep days we stopped of for some food and a chat with the locals. Excellent experience.

The Cable Cars down from the town (big queue) but I would prefer being scared for a few moments than an uncomfortable smelly ride on a donkey (walking was not an option as the friend I was travelling with was waiting for an operation on her foot, great excuse anyway).

Next time I want to do it all again and try to see the beaches of Kikini Paralia and it is meant to have Red Sand.

Limassol

This is a strange Island that is somewhat split in two by Political unrest Its divided into the Republic of Cyprus and the republic of Northern Cyprus, which is one is Greek and one is Turkey not sure which ones which though.
I took a tour here which was the Jeep Adventure, I have to say this was the only time I can remember I was thankful for a padded backside. But well worth the tour.

The guild was informative for the word go, talking with regards to the history of Limassol and the sites along the way.

The Jeeps stopped off to see waterfalls in Mesa Potomos they were a short walk and some of the girls and Guys climbed on them- I have to Say health and Safety in the UK would have has a fit).

They stopped of on the way at a small hotel for drinks and then the small village of Omodos, which had cobbled streets a great Church (please remember to cover up if you wish to see inside). Quaint shop and much to my relief a place to purchase Ice creams.

The next stop on the tour was the Winery which was small but the wine was good and an option to purchase was there as well.

This is worth the visit and was one of the most cost effective tours I have taken.

Roaming in Rhodes

No excursion required unless you wish to see something in particular.

The ship docks close to the town, high walls, and great ruins as you enter through the gates on the left hand side, quaint streets and hustling bars, the shops are good as you walk around- The Beer is recommended as a place to stop and cool of after a relaxing walk.

Rhodes is one of the largest medieval towns in Europe that is still occupied.

Next time I go I want to investigate the Mythology there as just outside in Mandraki Harbour is where they say Helios once stood.
Snap Happy again at this port.

Kusadasi

After the successful tour in Limassol I took a tour in Kusadasi, which was Ancient Ephesus I was not disappointed,

The tour was about half a day and started by taking us to the House of the Virgin Mary, although I am religious, she is one woman that got about, her poor donkey.

This stop for Mary was meant to be her house for the Last few years of her life. It is on the top of a hill and requires a little walking, but it is more the stall owners that are all over the place on the entrance/exit that is a struggle to get to.

However they were more respectful of your personal space than that of the ones at the end of Ephesus. (We all need to earn a living though). The house was small and took no time to get through I have to say if you could picture a place were you would expect Our Lady to Live this would be it. There is a fountain outside if you wish to partake,

Once you have finished you take a short trip down the hill to Ephesus, the ancient city, this is truly amazing, the tour is about an hour but you need longer to truly appreciate the site. This is still being excavated, so will be interesting to go back in a few years.

You can see Mosaics, columns, Library of Celsus, Temple of Hadrian, Grand Theatres where it is said St Paul Preached, Arcadian Way and lots more. You will need good shoes as there is a lot of walking for this site.

You will love this port, I found it very interesting, and ran out of space on my camera.

MS Eurodam

Launched the 28th June 2008.

My first ever Holland America Ship, would I recommend it- Yes
Would I go again-Yes
Stateroom 8026-The beds were more comfortable that that of the Queen Victoria, with a great Balcony size.

In my opinion this matches the quality of ship as that of Cunard. The Eurodam is the Sister ship is the Ventura but the decor and service is far better.

What can I say, elegance, elegance, elegance. This ship is a light, and spacious.

The outdoor swimming pool has a sliding roof and food and drink are available. It can get a bit warm though.

The casino is just about the right size, not as small as the Auroras and not to big as the likes of the Independent or the Navigator that you get lost, in the lights and sounds of the slots and the tables.

The Greenhouse Spa looked excellent but I did not get a chance to try it out.

The entrainment was excellent on board with the shows but I prefer the more personal smaller shows which the Piano Bar provided. The last stop being the Night club where by this time my Eye sight got remarkable better and my Glasses could come off.

If you are looking for something different you will not be disappointed with Holland America

Days at Sea with Princess

After a number of cruises now I prefer to be able to take a least one day at sea prior to hitting any port, the reason is; I am so tired after travelling that I always seem to either not make it of off the ship, forget to book an excursion or sleep through. (I am no sleeping beauty more like shriek).

I went on the Sea Princess for my honeymoon, the Itinerary it was doing was excellent with only a few days at sea. The ship was well maintained and clean as you would expect.

It was an experience I am glad I took, the level of service, the food including a endless supply of sea food on one day, it was all fantastic, and the Itinerary you just could not match. The Shore excursions were good value for money giving you a wealth of activates both on and off the ship. I have also been on the Emerald Princess in the Greek Islands and both ships did not disappoint.

The entertainment on board is generally very good as well, but most people seem to like to Sun worship or use the Spa.

The Princess Ships entertain well, with a variety of activates on at the same time. Activities include:

• Bridge Lectures (Cards)

• Brainteasers

• Port Lectures

• Dancing

• Competitions, Shuffleboard, table tennis, Basketball

• Golf

• Wii @ sea

• Comedy Shows

• Live music

• Bingo

• Art Auctions

• Ceramics at sea

• Movies under the stars

At times Customers to seem to complain, that Princess do not entertain them, which I disagree with, it depends if you can be bothered to read the Princess Patter (In your Cabin the previous Night). They do not have the Annoying announcements that you would expect at Butlins to inform you of today’s Activities.

The customers that do not read these seem to feel that they have Movies under the stars as a distraction for though passengers that do not realise they are not being entertained. In these cruises defence I did find there to be a lot of options to watch Movies and I have to say it was the only time I let my Husband watch Football (going rather red) and made sure he had a beer.

Princess ships I have been on are the Emerald and the Sea Princess.

Queen Victoria

Launched the 10th December 2007

Having never had the pleasure to go on the QE2 only but to be tantalised by her in Madeira It was excellent to be able to Visit the Queen Victoria.
I was in Stateroom A6/5112. The Cabin was well prepared the beds were comfortable and clean, the bathroom was of a standard size. There were Tea and Coffee Facilities in the cabin (requested).

I have been on many ships but the Cunard line is always to me how you expect cruising to be,

With the tasteful decor, the excellent Ball rooms and large chandeliers, the food of good quality and the excellent service. The Theatre with the only royal box at sea it reminds you of the old films with the elegant ladies and the gentleman. The shows are fantastic.

The Night club on board was a little small for the night I was on board but still very nice and gave excellent views of the ship.

The Area where the pub is is delightful and almost reminded me of the Old Paddington station with the big clock on display.

The Britannia Restaurant was over two floors and at first was a little bit big, (my ordination is a little bit off at the best of times).

I was lucky enough to see the Queen Victoria do her sea trials about a week before; I was on the Aurora with my Husband, she look like she was taking the Bay of Biscay very well in Force 8 gales.

Grand Trek to Amsterdam

It is lucky that we know how great cruising is; otherwise our Christmas party on the Balmoral may have been based on a coach in Dover.

With all of the snow in South East of England, it became unlikely we would make the ship embarking at 5.30pm, so as eager beaver to make sure we arrived on time the girls took of there high heels, picked up there cases (now is the time to justify the extra case for the shoes) and walked the last 5 miles in the snow, with the men weighed down by the pink cases and the girls in toe with there hand bags and glad rags we made it to the docks. I was disappointed in a way to have been down to Dover in the past, as I had to point out to my other trekker that it was the ferry docks, and way in the distance was the dock for the Ship. Not a great time to make friends.

With us all bonded by the experience who needs corporate team bonding events.

After a great shower. And a meal inside, the bar was in order; I have to say I may have had one to many the first night............I believe it is refered to as warming my cockles.

The Cabin was on Deck Eight, B grade, it was an Obtructed view cabin, but I have to say it was not that obtructed, it let in losts of light I could see the sea. Having been in Clear view before it has encouraged me to save my money for the spa and opt for this type of cabin from now on.

The next morning we arrived in Amsterdam, they do not have much snow so was unprepared, I have to say that according to one chat forum it seems even the whether girls weren’t expecting the full 6 inches.

Some of my colleagues ventured off into Amsterdam, whilst I stayed on board and enjoyed the facilities. With a shoulder ache, the spa was the next port of call. Massages were from only £35.00, it had booked up quick, and I think everyone had the same idea. The Palms Cafe was a the first facility I used, as I missed Breakfast I have to highly recommend there coffee, in high doses. The women’s institutes would be very disappointed in me.

Having taken my full dose of caffine a mini tour of the ship was in order, I was expecting to see the gingerbread houses that they had on last year, but unfortunately, there were not on display. They had however have very tasteful decorations around the bars, which was more than what there was on the Aurora two years before (Aurora is one of my favourite ships, so this was disappointing for me).

The games room was interesting; I managed to get a good game of chests in although a little rusty it soon came back to me. The libraries was well stocked and had jig saws that once you get started it's difficult to pull yourself away, I believe that every passenger that went past contributed at least one piece to it.

The captains cocktail party was prior to the meal on the second evening, which was entertaining and allowed us to speak to others that dared breathed the cold air, I have to say, I was glad I did not pre book the Van Gogh museum after all (the weather prior, told me I should not pre book it, I am glad I went by my instincts).

A couple went on a river boat trip which I done the previous year and they could not see much, I did content myself to looking at the photos and see the snow come down over the Rhine, it was must beautiful.

After the cocktail party it was the most terribly prospect for me, the group photo ARRRRGGGGHHH!

Dinner was traditional for Christmas as with the previous night, the food was good but not excellent, it did not have the same affect on me as the food on the Oceania cruise line, which has totally ruined Steak for me.

Having gained a like mined companion for the second night (after also enjoying the Bar contents a little too much the night before) Coke was in order and a grand tour of the ship.

The tour started in the Lido Bar (for reasons of Elvis only) which was an interesting show, I would not recommend it as a must see, but the songs were the good old ones, that you can sing along to at the top of your voice and actually know the words (even if the tone is not quite right)... Next was the morning light pub for the Quiz “you say pub, I say Quiz" a respectable score of 12 was on the cards ,with assistance from the managers in our party that were trying to sneak through.

The next set of entertainment in the main theatre' Neptune Lounge' where I missed the singer but caught a comedy act at the end, which was very good and rivaled the comedians I have seen on the Carnival ships.

On to the most desired locations for any women, the jewelry shop
Fred’s have afflictions with watches and due to this and duties free I picked up a last minute Christmas present for half the normal RRP. I highly recommend Fred’s alone for the cost of there watches. I am sure my Husband will love it, I thank Iain for assistance in the decision process

The decks were then investigated for the other activates on board, a venture into the cold night air, the night club to take in the venue, the Internet room (attached to the library and games room).

I have to say time flew by.

Thanks to Coke Cola I was up in time for breakfast and out into the coach for 8.30am with out any issues apart from fatigue.

Whist on board the staff were kind, remembered names, were efficient - the service in the restaurants was just as you would expect and I would recommend Fred Olsen to any customer that wants to experience good food, great ports and service but is not to worried about the shows that are on, however there entertainment was better than last years. Would I go again and recommend it to my family and friends- Yes and I would want to be in there suitcase.

Bitches at Sea!?!

My mum has a Shih-Tzu that has a four poster bed; she treats it as one of the Grandchildren. Trying not to sound jealous of the little bitch, but I was astounded to find out she is setting sail shortly on the Qm2.

She has her own Kennel- my mum did try to get her in the cabin with her, thankfully Cunard declined and advised they are well cared for in the kennels. They also have there own deck for walks and there own Lamp post and a person scooping the poop, I wish we all got such service; I will just have to wait until I am in a old peoples home, and lost my faculties.

What did surprise me was the price was only $300.00 for her, (the dog not my mum)

I found out the larger cages start from $500.00.

The other interesting part I found out and it has frustrated my mum a bit and that that they do not do transfers for the Passengers that participates in the Kennel services.

I called Cunard for her for the opening times as she was worried she would not be able to see her during the cruise the Kennel opening hours are:

7.30am to 9.30 am

11am to 12 pm

15.00pm to 18.00pm

The kennels are based at the Aft of deck 12.

Although you can request certain brands for your dog there is not a vet on board. As my mums said it is only 7 nights, what are the chances of anything going wrong?

Strictly Come Dancing

With strictly come Dancing being so popular at the moment it makes you want to know a little bit more, however I think that my legs and arms thrusting in all directions I may end up with the kiss of life from one of the uniform officers as they may think I am having a fit. Being a married lady this is the closest I would get to an "Officers and a gentleman"

My Brother is an avid fan of Ballroom dancing and participates regularly so when Warren Bullock and Jane Phillips appearing on three of our cruises I wanted to know who and what it was all about so I spoke to him to find out......

I found out that they run classes for beginners to advance as part of the Zig Zag Dance factory, it meant to be great fun and a way to improve your fitness levels or so I am told.

What interested me the most is how they can reduce the price of the cruises and have Dance workshops, Ballroom lessons? Latin America dance lessons as well as (and what I am most interested in) VIP Cocktail parties). The price being lower on these cruises and the extras makes me wonder why the cruisers are not lining up (country style) to book.

I can't wait, last year I went with work over to Amsterdam for our Christmas Party and we are off again this year.

I am planning on going to the Van Gogh museum, the last three times I went to go, but missed out- this year I plan to pre book my tickets

Last year it was the Braemar this year it's the Balmoral which is bigger and a lot of customers seem to enjoy it more.

I do not understand the cow though.

I find Amsterdam to be an interesting city with great night life, the strangeness of the red light, the relax rules on drugs, to the art and architecture, and history you also can not forget the clogs.

Well worth the visit, even the queue for Ann Franks house.

Curious Curacao

Out of all of the Caribbean islands I think that the Dutch do it best.

Take Curacao as an example, colourful houses to the edge of a canal with a bridge that retracts to let ships pass by.

Holiday treats for the family are plentiful from the market stalls that line the canal.

The beaches are great with loungers and bars at the side which are a fantastic stop off from the local brewery.

A day here makes you want to stay clean, bright, great people, beaches and the sun what more can you want.

Zipping through ST.LUCIA

There are many excellent view and activities to do in St Lucia; if you potter about the local town you will have wasted you visit in my opinion. The Princess line do excellent excursions one is the Tree top canopy adventure, you get pulleys and cables through the tropical rain forest.

I hope you have used the most sort after equipment in the Gym, Scales!!! You need to be a maximum weight of 265 pounds, but worth the exhilaration you feel and a view you would never imagine you would get.

Shopping in Aruba

When I stopped of in Aruba I explored the local town, it was a great way to take in the local shops and see the strangest of sites.

I recommend stocking up on your T-Shirts here if you are a fan (C'mon Man Smile! and other cheery ones)

Jewellery is also in abundance here, I have to say although I like shopping as much as the next person I do not feel it is that relaxing to do on holiday.

Guns at the ready

Samana was an interesting port of call for me having plucked up the courage to tour by ourselves a few port before this I have to say from my eyes was like a John Wayne movie instead of smith and Wesson you have the sawn of shotguns’, but turned out to be a great port of call, however my husband who had given up smoking a year before got a taste for the odd cigar after visiting a local tobacco farm. On the tender we hooked up with about 3 other couples jumped in a mini bus paid 20 us dollars each and had the day scooting around in a mini bus seeing the off the beaten track, at first I thought we were going to be killed then I relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. He took us to the cigar farm/ factory which we were able to barter for boxes for the cancer sticks-I have to say it was interesting watching them roll them.

We then went to a beach which was at all inclusive resort for the day, it has to be one of the most picturesque beaches I have visited and even came across a blow fish in the shallows.

After the beach we were taken to El Limon waterfalls, the tours in comparison were a rip off at this port, but with John Wayne in the back street you may feel inclined to pay the extra.

Gardens of Heligan

Tim Smit seems to of re-invented a master piece, with every season and year making this one of the must see gardens in the UK.

Having ventured to this Garden year on year and seen it in every season you can but wonder how we let it get into a state of disrepair. Tim and his band of merry (Wo) men, have given my family much joy, and I intend to see one of the Shakespeare productions at this site as soon as I can. I just hope that the Gardener world cruise ventures to this garden again next year. To explore it with a specialist would be something to talk about and see it in a new light.

The Venetian garden is one of the most magical sites, and if I was a great gardener would love to put even the smallest essence of this area in my garden. However I decided to just try the vegetables for now, with a bunker crop of lettuce and slugs to boot. I am still inspired.

The Victorian vegetable patch I am sure was also meant to supply the local fishing village of Mevagissey due to immense size. You almost get the sense you are right of the set of a Jane Austin novel.

Although it is a shame they could not get the main house, they still have a great coffee shop and you must try the cream teas. I am assured they are excellent, by my husband and son! However I prefer to stick to the Carrot cake- it must be healthy I can see in the dark!!!

The main area of beauty for me is just off from the coffee shop.....

From this area you can branch out to the valley the woodlands or even the area were they keep there local livestock- once again it proves gardens are for all the family not just a place to drag the kids to look at pretty flowers.

In the woodlands there are sculptures to spot that change the colour of hair with each passing season, I believe the recent x-factor stars may have taken there inspiration for there hair style from them!

Trebah Garden

I try to go to at least two Gardens a year, and hope that one of the Garden tours that Fred Olsen and the Gardens World chaps do will suit the holiday times with my son for us to venture on one.
I went to Trebah Garden this year and can understand why this was one of the Gardens of choice this year. If you ever visit and can muster the strength to climb over the steps to there private beach you will understand why I felt very proud to be there. The history of the gardens is unlike any other.
It is a shame like with other gardens in Cornwall such as Heligan that the beautiful house on the grounds are not open to the public, but it seems the way now a days.

This was the first Garden I visited with my disabled father in law in toe with my nine year old son and I will confess I was a bit worried. Especially when you are informed on entrance that there is one toilet and it where you start in 25 acres garden. ummm.
The map there provided for the electric scooter was great however either my map reading abilities let us down or the path was steep on occasions. There were some entertaining moments.

This Garden is one for all the family especially if you are a child at heart, being a mother that drags her child around such places my son has learnt to enjoy or be quite. On this garden it was most enjoyable and interactive for them- the paths were well organised weaving amongst the Bamboozie and under the giant Brazilkian Rhubard it makes you feel like Alice in wonderland. The Tarzan camp I would love to have in our local park, hidden from view in the trees, it's like a secret for the children.
The Garden has 22 Red data Species and 5 of the champion tress in the U.K on site. With 4,900 plants in the garden with the Pinus Radiata Monterey pine being over 167 years.

It has 3 main ponds a water garden, cascades, Rhododendrons and Hydrangea valleys that give you an influx of colour and scents that even Jamie Oliver will not be able to rival.

Cracking Caracas

Whist in Carcas last year I took one of the best shore excursions I could want.

The Sea Princess excursions were interesting and not all the time worth the money, however as a avid Gardener I wanted to see the local Eco- logical park, which was Topotepuy. It was a delight. A small group of us visited and explored the garden and the wildlife; it had the most fantastic wildlife flora and fauna I have seen in a while.

After the Park we were then taken to the El Avila National Park, and for someone who gets wobbly standing up, it was a task, it stands 7,000 feet on the northern edge of Caracas and slops down the other side into the Caribbean see, which means excellent sites and a scary ride for me in the Austrian built cable car. I would love to say the ride in the cart was worth it but.... I think the picture says it all....

There are not many places I would recommend to take excursions but the traffic and the quality of excursions although limited I would not recommend doing it alone- There was an organised excursion that was late due to traffic. I have to say it was nice there were late as it meant we left as darkness fell, revealing hundreds of lights on the hills giving it a excellent send off. I like to remember this place as that rather than the rubbish tips that you first see. Fist impressions in this location get striped away to give you an experience you will never forget.

Slop, Frozen or Homemade

After coming back from a recent trip to Turkey I was surprised to be served with a some what decent meal, (although it was a frozen ready meal) instead of the normal slop that is served. I also had a colouring set included for the little one.

I have to say that although it was half decent the £15.00 per head for the meals I don't think was worth it, next time Subway will be joining us- or maybe a home made sandwiches.

I Spoke to a customer yesterday that expresses opinions on the reason why Cunard are sailing from main land Europe a lot next year instead of Southampton. He informed me that it was formed from speaking to the Americans.
Apparently the Americans do not want to fly into London due to terrorists; he said they like us to go first a bit like Pearl Harbour!!
